2:15 half marathon

Weekly Recap

Welcome back to the Mojave!

85 degrees on the minivan's display at 5:15, yeah-it's July. It'll get better, if by better you mean 'hotter'.
Don't forget the Notch Run next Saturday, the Track Club's famous 4 mile uphill run. If you run it, you have my blessing to sleeeeeeeep in next Sunday. 7000 feet, nice and cool, and the chance to get your first medal. Just be the first in your age group across the line, how hard can that be? www.lvtc.org will get you to the Active.com registration link and more information. You may want to meet somewhere and carpool, feel free to reply-all if you're going to plan your trip.

I'll be in Missouri next week, at my aunt and uncle's campground: www.kozykamp.netĀ  and Fearless Leader Erin will be knocking off a downhill half marathon through Bryce Canyon. You'll be in good hands with Assistant Back-up Leaders Mark and Valerie - it's 4 miles next week, we start moving to distance instead of time. 4 miles is the water stop, so it's a shorter run than today's Tour de Wash. Revel in it, it's your first drop-back week!

Details on today's run along with random bits of enthusiasm can be found at the usual spot: www.2009twofifteen.blogspot.comĀ  Chime in with your favorite part of running through the sprinklers: soggy socks, water spots on your sunglasses, or electronic fizzes in the headphones!

See you cocktail Sunday!

Week 4 Recap

Good afternoon, runners!

I've posted the results of our Sunday's run on the
www.2009twofifteen.blogspot.com link - it looks like the Las Vegas in
Motion website will be up and running (ha ha) soon, so I'll be moving the
posts over there - links on the page!

Nice job, everyone who came out. If we missed you, don't forget it's 6 am
start time now. We'll have a milestone run this weekend: we'll make it to
the water stop!
And it's cocktails, wear your dressiest running gear.

If you haven't been to a Track Club race, there's one in Henderson on
Saturday, near the District. You're all members, so it's a mere $3 to see
what your 5k race looks like and you get a shiny ribbon. As always, links
to the Track Club website are on the page, along with pictures and
results from our previous races: see your Fearless Leaders dressed in
running ties to celebrate Father's Day Eve!

Watch out tomorrow, there's a ground level ozone alert. Keep your
training early in the morning or go inside to a treadmill. Take it easy
on yourself, we have a few months to go!

take care,

Whats with all the Hills?

Week four, already?

Sunday's run was the last of the challenging ones: we ran 3.3 miles in 35 minutes, or about 10:30 pace, a little brisker than last week. Your homework is paying off!
The reason I say it was the last of the challenging runs is that from now on, we'll hit the water stop. The first mile and a half are hills - both up and down, and once we cross under the railroad trestle we're done with that nonsense. A little detour under the streets we cross but that's it for the steeps - it'll be back to our beloved flat, level, smooth surface!
The six am start time is a little cooler, isn't it? I hope you enjoyed yourselves, and that you'll be ready for next Sunday - to celebrate our distance achievement and the magic water stop milestone, we'll celebrate with mimosas - one of the Running World Approved post-run cocktails. Look it up!

Week Three - In the bag!

Good job runners!
Thanks to Fearless Leader Erin's secret shortcut, we had a nice little run in the park. And in the wash. And under a bridge, like trolls looking for plump Billy Goats Gruff. And always up a hill!
The new course information is out, there's links on previous posts that show the route. Tim Kelly told us it's flat, so the whole idea of a hill is anathema. However, I know something: hills build leg strength. It's a good idea to get some hill work in as part of your homework. I have a nice route by my house that gives me a mile warm up then some laps on a nice little hill.
So where are we?
Today, we ran 2.66 miles in 30 minutes, for an average pace of 11:16 per mile.
(by the way, that's another 1/10th of a marathon, with a 5 hour estimated finish time- did you know you had that in you?) It's hot, we're still on soggy tired desk-bound legs and it's EXCELLENT work. The marathon is in December. Now is the time to the basics down, the time to train your mind. The body will come along with whatever the mind tells it to.
We will be back to 6 am next Sunday, looking for more billy goats!
