Las Vegas Marathon training

Rock n Roll Las Vegas Marathon

Registration is open for both the marathon and half-marathon training programs.  With 24 weeks remaining until race day, we have plenty of time to work together to get ready to toe the line on December 6th.

Welcome to Las Vegas in Motion

Changing Times

Changing Times
This is a quick reminder that for these next two weeks we will be gathering around 5:30a.m., then hitting the trail at 6:00 a.m.
Beginning Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, we will move back another notch to an earlier wake-up call.  Yep.  That weekend we will come together around 5:00 a.m., then trip the light fantastic beginning at 5:30 a.m.  We know, we know.  That's an unmerciful time to be out misbehavin'.  But if you've lived in the Mojave Desert for longer than 30 minutes you know how miserable it can be here in the summertime.
Once Ma Nature has vented her wrath and begins to cool down we'll slip back to a saner starting time.  But that ain't gonna happen for quite few weeks, so let's do the best we can with what we have to work with.
Steady Friends
A Friend, indeed, is a Friend in need right now.  More than a few of you have spotted the two articles in the Las Vegas Sun about Carlos Ramirez.  Most of you would recognize Carlos by sight simply because he's the only one among us who's trained for, then completed, an entire marathon while walking with a cane and an unforgettable limp.  Two years in a row Carlos was the last finisher in the Las Vegas Marathon needing every bit of 11 hours to make the journey.  His time wasn't important.  His determination is all that mattered.

A few years back Carlos suffered multiple strokes and heart attacks.  As a result Carlos lost his job as a mechanic with Metro.  Now, even after years of fighting back through physical therapy, the muscles on the left side of Carlos' body have atrophied and withered.  It seems that there's just no way to bring back the nervous sensation in his left leg and arm.

Because of Carlos' medical misfortunes he's been unable to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's in the form of property taxes.  Together we have a chance to help a good man, and a good friend, hang onto the modest house he's lived in these last 20 years.  Here's the deal.

We'd like to propose a challenge to all of us who have been a little more fortunate than Carlos.  The Las Vegas Running Company will match any contributions you make collectively up to $4,250 which is roughly half of the tax lien due.  With 765 wonderful people on this list it shouldn't be too hard to come close to retiring that tax debt.  A $5 contribution from everyone who's trained with us in the past, or who's on the trail with us now, will just about put this thing to rest.

We've set up an account with Washington Mutual just for this purpose:
415 266 3831  account number
322 271 627    routing number

You can make a deposit at any of the WAMU branches around the valley, or you can wire money into the account using the information above.  Or, you can mail your check made payable to FBO Carlos Ramirez to our address:
LVRC - Carlos Ramirez
5665 Lion Head Way
Las Vegas, NV  89118

We'd be honored to make the deposit for you.

Please help a friend if you can.  Your kindness won't go unrewarded.

Thanks All,
Tim Kelly

Update

Folks, We're trying a new tool to make e-blasting easier, but so far it's been anything but. Nonetheless, we owe an answer to the good people in the Saturday group, so let's make this short and...well, short will do.

Tomorrow, Saturday, June 20, we will be meeting at a new location. Ready? Me too.

Nu Vision Cyclery Trails Village Center
1970 Village Center Circle
Summerlin (which is kinda like Las Vegas only...different)

I only know how to get to it one way From Summerlin Pkwy. turn north-ish on Town Center At the first roundabout go around to 9:00 and exit right onto Village Center Circle Go one block and turn left onto Trailwood Dr.
Go a few hundred feet and turn right into the parking lot of Trails Village Center The building on your left as you first enter the complex is where we'll be.

Plan on heading out early so you can find us. You should be in the parking lot by 5:40 a.m. because tomorrow's the day we move to a brave, new time. Yep. We hit the trail tomorrow at 6:00, so please do be on time. If this actually works we'll be on the way to being able to chat more frequently.
We sure hope that's a good thing

Thanks All For Your Patience

Hi Folks,

Please forgive the delayed notice.  We've been exploring every possibility for a suitable training site in the northwest.  We still have more than one option available, but for now here's the deal:

Northwest
Where:  Kellogg-Zaher Park (southeast corner of Durango & Washington by the tennis courts)
When:   7:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30...tomorrow morning!

For those of you training with us in the southeast, we'll be at the same ol' place we've always been.  Here's a reminder:

Southeast
Where:  Village Runner (northwest corner of Stephanie & American Pacific in a strip shopping center)
When:   7:00 a.m., Sunday, May 31...two days from now!

We'll have the applications with us, so we can take care of that little bidnez on site.  We're going to ask you to please be discrete when making payment.  Zappos employees get a discount from what the others are paying.  Please keep that to yourselves.

Here are the payment arrangements:
- make your check payable to LVRC
- $80 if you ARE NOT now a member of the Las Vegas Track Club (includes a 1-yr. individual membership)
- $60 if you are currently a member of the Las Vegas Track Club

We won't bore you with all the details, but your membership in the Track Club will be beneficial to you, and the nominal cost will be recovered through discounts into Track Club events.

This weekend we'll be passing out the training schedules for June.  Within the week we'll have the entire training schedule available online.  Stay tuned.  We'll have more on that later.

So then, in addition to your check or cash, all you need to bring is a bright smile and an infectious sense of good humor.  We've got the rest covered.

We're absolutely delighted to have you out on the trail with us this year.  If you've got the will, we know the way.  Just follow us to the promise land on December 6, and we guarantee a good time will be had by all.

Now......lace 'em up, Brothers and Sisters.  It's time to get this party started!
Thanks,
Tim Kelly
