Las Vegas Marathon training

Rock n Roll Las Vegas Marathon

Registration is open for both the marathon and half-marathon training programs.  With 24 weeks remaining until race day, we have plenty of time to work together to get ready to toe the line on December 6th.

Welcome to Las Vegas in Motion

A Chance for a Change

We've talked about the project to dam the natural spring, remove the native vegetation and pour concrete in the Pittman Wash Trail from Arroyo Grande west to the Union Pacific Railroad trestle.  A cynical person might suggest that destroying that pristine segment of the wash is simply a "make work" project to burn off some of the excess capital Clark County has been stockpiling during this Great Recession. Last month we submitted petitions with over 570 signatures to the City of Henderson requesting that they consider using Clark County's $4.5 million to harvest green cheese on the moon instead of ripping out that cool, clean oasis.  Mayor Andy Hafen, in response, scheduled a public meeting to inform us that we're acting like spoiled children who don't understand why it's important to shut up and take our medicine. We need your help, if you wouldn't mind.  If you live, work or play along the Pittman Wash Trail, and it wouldn't be a major inconvenience to you, please join us tomorrow for a brief meeting with the City of Henderson Public Works engineers.  It's important that they hear our voices, and see our faces, in large numbers.  Here are the particulars:
What - meeting about proposed concrete channel in Pittman Wash between Union Pacific Railroad and Arroyo Grande Blvd.

When - 6 PM, Wednesday, July 13

Where - on the Pittman Wash Trail at a neighborhood access path to Helmsdale Dr. and Fox Butte Ct. (roughly halfway between Arroyo Grande and the Union Pacific Railroad trestle)

This is most likely our last shot at influencing this inane decision.  Please play a part if you can.  We'll save some green cheese for you.

07/11 Training Run, 4:15 pace group

It was hot but fun.  Our first double-digit run is in the books, and it wasn't too bad at all.  Even though it was 91 degrees before the sun came up, sporadic cloud cover made the heat tolerable.  Here are the stats:

Time: 1:36:47
Distance: 10.01 miles
Average Pace: 9:40 min/mile
Calories Burned: 1412

As you can see, we're doing very well for this time of year.  Our pace is great.  It's likely that, as the heat increases and the runs get longer, it'll slow down a bit, but once cooler weather returns and we get accustomed to long runs, it will pick back up.  We're all doing very well.

Next week, we're going to run another ten miles, as we improve our endurance and get used to long distances.  Don't worry--before you know it we'll be touching the wall, and adding spurs to the trail.  For now, though, just be glad that things are going so well.
